Jose Miguel Hernandez
Venezuelan artist and designer who immigrated to Canada in 2014. Since settling in Canada, I continue to peruse my love in creating art. Currently, I am a member with the board of directors for the Art School of Peterborough. Art represents life to me. It is my passion and my escape to a perfect place. The pieces I create are filled with deep nostalgic messages and experiences that have changed my life and made me who I am today. My work branches in three different areas: The first is oil painting - where I try to achieve what I call an “isolated realism”, focusing on simple images and feelings, but leaving behind extra details around the subject matter. The second is drawing and illustration - mainly using pencil and charcoal. The third is designing and painting murals for organizations around the community. Whether I do a painting, drawing or a mural, my art is an extension of who I am, my sensitivity, and the way I see the world.
